Workers of the City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements Directorate have helped relocate 42 families of the Pine Road informal settlement in Woodstock to the Pickwick Transitional Housing Facility in Salt River. This short-term accommodation facility, the first of its kind in South Africa, will enable the City to relocate people from sites that have been earmarked for social housing projects but that have not been able to be developed for social housing as it is informally occupied. Paula Yauna has lived in the informal settlement for 20 years.
